“MUM UP”, pregnancy care just a click away

Direct and fast access – with a tap on their smartphones – to make appointments for all the visits that monitor the most important steps of pregnancy; direct interaction with ob-gyn doctors via chat; PC screen monitoring of patients’ clinical parameters through the “pregnancy diary”; video advice and FAQs on concerns or questions that women ask themselves in this special period, before and after giving birth.

These are the main services offered by the Fatebenefratelli-Isola Tiberina Hospital in Rome with the new digital health system called “MuM Up“, evolved from the TreC platform (the Citizen’s Clinical Record in use for over ten years in Trentino) and developed within TrentinoSalute4.0, the competence center for digital health of the Autonomous Province of Trento, the Trento province Healthcare System and Fondazione Bruno Kessler.

“MuM Up” (available on Apple store and Google play), is the new digital tool that will allow women to receive follow-up care from experts even remotely, via medical “dashboards” on their PCs, throughout their pregnancy. A new service supporting mothers in an innovative, complete and safe solution. And, as of next spring, access to remote visiting will be enabled.

The first keys for accessing the new application were delivered today to 30 expectant mothers, in the presence of the main interlocutors and partners of the project gathered via videoconference. First time pregnant women, women who have already had more than one delivery, have been able to appreciate the new digital tool that will keep them in contact with their doctors even “at distance”, accompanied in every important step of their pregnacies. “A useful service to simplify the booking process and, thanks to the possibility of interacting with doctors, to contain the anxieties that are a natural part of pregnancy, especially in times of Covid” – says Alessandra who has recently given birth to her first child and hopes to be able to use it for a future pregnancy.

The project is carried out with the collaboration of P4I-Partners4Innovation (Digital 360 Group) and Dedagroup Public Services.

“From the “bi-test” prenatal diagnostic test, to the so-called “morphology” 20-week ultrasound, and the 32-week fetal growth ultrasound, women can schedule through Mum Up, in a single solution and with the right timing, the main appointments to monitor their pregnancy”- specified the Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Antonio Ragusa. “Furthermore, through the video channel and chat, expectant mothers will be able to get basic information and answers to questions that are often asked to doctors about lifestyle, nutrition, physical activity or concerns about particular problems, such as pre-term labor risk factors”.

“Following women throught pregnancy, from conception to childbirth, so as to reassure expectant mothers, is one of the main goals of the birth support service of this hospital where about 3500 children are born every year” – commented Director General of the Hospital Friar Pascal Ahodegnon. “Thanks to new technology, we now have the possibility to better achieve this goal, in line with the tradition of hospitality and quality of Fatebenefratelli Hospital for the best service to users that makes us a point of reference for births, among other things, throughout Italy”.

“The number of births registered at Fatebenefratelli, aggregating the data from the Isola Tiberina and San Pietro Hospitals in Rome, is around 8,000 per year. In Trentino there are about 4,000”- explains Diego Conforti, Director of the Innovation and Research Office of the Health Department of the Autonomous Province of Trento. “These data allow us to expand the user base for this technology and further improve the service. The goal is to share the technology and organizational skills and solutions gained in Trentino. We encourage the creation of a national “community” on pregnancy related topics for the development of a shared digital health solution, where models and tools can be developed and reused”.

“For FBK, MuM Up represents a starting point, not an arrival point” – Paolo Traverso, Director of Marketing Strategy and Business Development at Fondazione Bruno Kessler pointed out. “Building and adding to this technology platform over time, involving, together with researchers and technologists, women and health professionals working in the field, is part of our scientific approach. Thanks to TrentinoSalute4.0, a strategic alliance between FBK, APSS and PAT, we aim to create an ecosystem of continuing learning, which will develop gradually and constantly over time, in a co-design and verification of increasingly advanced functions (such as virtual coach, predictive models, etc.). It is a process that involves everyone: citizens, volunteers associations and schools, health professionals, health IT professionals, policy makers, healthcare managers, health profession associations, private companies and researchers/ technologists. Everyone can make an essentail contribution to building an efficient and equitable public health system”.

The TrentinoSalute4.0 joint laboratory is an example of this: the health system, research and administration of the local area bring together skills and experience for innovative solutions that can facilitate access to health services. The collaboration with the Fatebenefratelli Hospital and the sharing of a tool like TreC also goes in this direction. Thanks to technology, expectant mothers will be able to experience a better informed pregnancy and we could have an important exchnage of views to improve our technology solutions”.
