Cybersecurity. The Internet of Things.

October 11, 2017

Suggestions from the Future: live innovations from the coming decade. This was discussed at FBK by Riccardo Meggiato, a writer and cybersecurity expert.

On Wednesday, October 4, 2017, trento-based FBK hosted a talk on the Internet of Things (IoT) and Cybersecurity during a meeting organized by ManagerItalia, the organization representing 629 managers in the business, transportation, tourism, services, and tertiary industries based in Trentino-Alto Adige. Brilliant and effective, Riccardo Meggiato explained to attending managers what IoT – at the heart of industry 4.0 – is, where the connection to the web is extended to all home and business technologies, with the possibility to receive real-time usage statistics, and to control each piece of equipment (e.g. the blast furnace in a metallurgical power plant can be remotely controlled and its efficiency estimated at any given point). Closely related to the Internet of things is cybersecurity; threats  to it cost Italian companies 9 billion every year and the trend is growing. “Fortunately,” Meggiato says, “tools are being developed to limit damage.”
