Emerging scientific award to FBK researcher Giulia Cencetti

The reason for the recognition reads: “for outstanding contributions in Complex Systems Science“.

This is the first time for this recognition to be awarded. Each year, in fact, the Complex System Society awards a Senior researcher with a career recognition and a Junior researcher (up to 10 years after the PhD has been completed) for the excellence of the contributions, which this year went to prof. Shlomo Havlin and Dr. Orit Peleg respectively.

As of this year, the awards for emerging researchers have also been included (up to 3 years after the end of the PhD), to encourage those who have started to take their first promising steps in this domain.

The aim of the award is above all to promote interdisciplinarity and represents a recognition for the challenges that young researchers in the disciplines of complex systems face working at the intersection of different scientific fields.

The committee evaluated candidates based on their contributions to research (publications and open code) but also on their communication skills, both with scientists and with the general public, and on their commitment to dissemination.

In particular, as part of the “Session 5.8: COVID-19 VI“, Giulia Cencetti, together with Gabriele Santin, Antonio Longa, Emanuele Pigani, Alain Barrat, Ciro Cattuto, Sune Lehmann, Marcel Salathe and Bruno Lepri, gave a presentation entitled “Digital proximity tracing on empirical contact networks for pandemic control“, the topic of a recent publication in Nature Communications.
