FBK at the 2019 education festival

April 11 through 14, Rovereto will be hosting talks about school-family relations and the need to find an educational alliance. More than 90 choices on the calendar and plenty of space for hands-on experience, with 42 workshops and 20 organized entertainment activities. Among the guests, FBK President Francesco Profumo, writers Michela Murgia, Eraldo Affinati and Giacomo Mazzariol, professors Umberto Galimberti, Chiara Maria Bove and Gianluca Argentin, sportspeople Giorgio Cagnotto and Josefa Idem.

The presentation of the program was attended by Achille Spinelli, Councilor for Economic Development, Research and Labor of the Autonomous Province of Trento and the Promoting Committee represented by its scientific coordinator Paola Venuti, director of the Department of Psychology and Cognitive Sciences at the University of Trento, Cristina Azzolini, Councilor for Education of the Municipality of Rovereto and by Roberto Ceccato, Director of the Education and Culture Department of the Autonomous Province of Trento.

As is the tradition at this event, the Festival of education opens on Friday morning with a series of events dedicated exclusively to schools and then goes on from the afternoon until Sunday with a rich offer of meetings, chats with experts, focus groups, workshops and organized entertainment activities open to all. But starting from Thursday 11, it will be possible to watch the footings provided by EDUCA IMMAGINE, a new feature of this year’s edition.

Fondazione Bruno Kessler will be present at the Rovereto education festival this year too. Especially on Friday, April 12 and Saturday, April 13 with a science cafè (Friday, April 12, 9.30 am), two workshops (Friday, April 12, 10.00 am), an information corner (Saturday, April 13, from 9.30 am), three round tables (Saturday, April 13, at 10.30 am, 12.00 pm and 3.00 pm).

Here below are the details of the activities organized by FBK.

Friday, April 12
As part of the Educa per le Scuole program, from 9.30 am at the Stappo Matto bar, the project called Cittadini per la Scienza organizes a scientific café aimed at discussing in-depth the perception of the role of women in modern society. What is the attitude of the new generations towards this delicate moment? What, if any, are the differences when compared with the attitude of adults?
The protagonists of the debate will be some students of the Maffei High School in Riva del Garda who – as part of the initiative La bottega della scienza – are carrying out a research project on gender equality.

At 10.00 am, the Palazzo Istruzione building, will be hosting a workshop on Hate Speech organized by FBK-ISR.
How do young people view the growing cultural and religious diversity? Do they use media and social media to learn about this topic? How do they think we can freely express our opinion without hurting the feelings of others? These and other questions will be explored at the lab conducted by FBK researchers who will try to give answers, promoting a reflection on stereotypes, prejudices and verbal violence spread on social media and new media.

Also at 10.00 am, the e-Health and Digital Humanities Units propose the Playing with Cyberbullying laboratory. The FBK researchers will playfully and innovatively involve young people on a very topical subject and very close to them, helping them to recognize its signs on the web. Participants will be asked to analyze some messages with the aid of an interpretation grid and to identify some of its characteristics. As in a role play, the young participants will try to put themselves in the shoes of victims of overt bullying cases.

Saturday, April 13
Fondazione Bruno Kessler will open on Saturday, April 13 with two events called At school of community by the High Impact Initiative Smart Cities and Communities.
The Palazzo Istruzione building, starting at 9.30 am, will be hosting the information corner called The school as a smart community, where researchers will be presenting to the public the many projects carried out in recent years, which have involved and still involve dozens of schools and hundreds of students, not only in Trentino. Three dimensions will be presented in particular: the school as an organization, the school as an educating community and the school as an inclusive community. There will be some examples of projects and technologies of the school community co-designed with citizens.

At 10.30 am, Annapaola Marconi will talk in a round table together with Domenico Facchini and Arianna Giuliani, and discuss how the school, from a training place, can become a space generating inclusion and solidarity, sustainability and civism for the whole community. The seminar will present some innovative projects, CLIMB in particular, which have leveraged different methodologies and skills (technological, legal and cooperative education) and will try to understand if and what conditions can be replicated in other contexts.

Also Saturday, April 13, at 10.00 am, Cesare Furlanello, will be among the protagonists of the round table New training models. To develop an aptitude for change and innovation, organized in collaboration with the University of Trento. The FBK researcher will talk with Giovanni Biondi, Erik Gadotti and Annalisa Pasini, offering a reflection on the issues of families and schools, suggesting a model that will enable them to re-interpret them in the light of a new approach that values the individual and the family within a context that takes into account the potential of each individual. In particular, the experience of the Artigianelli ecosystem will be described as an example for the redefinition of organizational, pedagogical and teaching models, through a rethinking of therapeutic, personal and group apporaches, and the construction of relationships between schools and business and research.

In the afternoon, at 3.00 pm, in the meeting How to save us from fake news, Fondazione Bruno Kessler President Francesco Profumo will dialogue with researcher Manlio De Domenico and Roberto Rinaldi, and try to make people reflect on the importance of promoting an information culture that is aware of its educational responsibility. Facebook, Instagram, Youtube are in fact becoming the main, if not the only, sources of information for young people and not only. Yet research shows that, on social media, emotions count more than facts, and opinions more than data. The imaginary thus ends up prevailing over reality and contributes to building a parallel reality. Promoting an information culture is therefore not a purely “technical” task, but an educational and civil responsibility that requires a new alliance between journalism, school and families.
