FBK takes part in Mobile World Congress 2018
The Foundation will be contributing to the global summit of experts in mobile devices and industry technologies, with the presentation of the "Munich-Bologna 5G Corridor" and "City Sensing Living Lab" projects
At this global summit of experts in mobile devices and industry innovations, the Foundation will illustrate in particular the “Munich-Bologna 5G Corridor” and “City Sensing Living Lab” projets, dedicated respectively to setting up a route for connected cars that will tap into the new 5G technology and innovative digital services for citizens based also on the Internet of Things.
Connected car, 5G and the Munich-Bologna Mobility Corridor
600 km, 3 countries (Italy, Austria and Germany), 15 partners coordinated by FBK Create-net. These are the numbers of the “Munich-Bologna corridor”, one of the 6 ones promoted by the EU to improve the mobility of goods and people across Europe. The aim of the “mobility corridors” is to design and experiment the safe and sustainable mobility of the future through self-driving vehicles, the autonomous management of commercial fleets (trucks) and the advanced management of emergencies. The key technological factor is the 5G network for the implementation of a new concept of connected and automated vehicles: a smart living environment to meet the needs of mobility in smart cities and throughout the European road network. The Munich-Bologna corridor will also represent the test bench for cross-border testing, which makes this project interesting at an international level.
City Sensing Living Lab
The “Smart City Lab a Vela” project sees the Municipality of Trento and FBK collaborating together to test innovative Smart City solutions in the Vela district of Trento. All the activities of this laboratory are closely connected to the Stardust European project of the Horizon 2020 SCC (Smart City and Communities) program, allowing to experiment, in a real context and with the collaboration and participation of real citizens, smart solutions to be applied to the whole city once their actual usefulness is verified. Among the projects, CLIMB an IoT (Internet of Things) system and an app for the autonomous mobility of children to and from school, evolving the logics of the “Waking Bus”.
