Hub Innovazione Trentino is launching a PROTO challenge

October 31, 2018

Five finalist companies will compete for advanced software supported mechanical redesigning

[PRESS RELEASE] HIT – Innovation Hub Trentino, is launching PROTO Challenge, a challenge of innovation that will allow 5 local companies selected among the many that have submitted their applications, to develop, together with university students and researchers from Trentino, the benefits of additive manufacturing and CAE – Computer Aided Engineering.

The 5 manufacturing companies – FAE Group (Fondo), Karl Mayer (Mezzolombardo), Marangoni Meccanica (Rovereto), Vitec Group (Manfrotto) and EMI Controls (Bolzano) – will work with the support of multidisciplinary teams of students and researchers, analyze and redesign, in a more sustainable way, already existing products and plastic or metal elements. In this context, the support of another major Trentino-based company, Enginsoft, is critical as it will provide researchers and students with ANSYS, a program that is optimal for the mechanical redesigning pursued by the Challenge.

As Flavio Deflorian, Vice-chancellor for the support of the productive system of the University of Trento and HIT Board Member, explained, “This is one of the main initiatives promoted by HIT to bring, with innovative tools, the demand for innovation and technology coming from companies closer to the offer of solutions that the Trentino-based research system has developed. Working in close synergy allows to solve even very complex industrial innovation problems “.

The results of these challenges will be presented on November 28, after a month of intense work and collaboration between research and business.

PROTO Challenge is an initiative of HIT, organized in collaboration with the University of Trento, the ProM Facility of Trentino Sviluppo, Confindustria Trento, C-Lab, with the support of EngineSoft, and in the context of the Digital Innovation Hub Trentino Alto-Adige/Südtirol.
