Men who abuse women. A look between past and present

The Italian-German Historical Institute of Fondazione Bruno Kessler and the Trentino Historical Museum Foundation, with the financial support of the Autonomous Province of Trento, has organized for Wednesday, November 21 “Men who abuse women. A look between past and present “, an initiative in view of the” International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women “.

It will start at 2.30 pm, in the Hall of the Caritro Foundation in Trento (via Calepina, 1) with a study seminar addressing the issue in its historical depth, combining local and national research. Thanks to the experts that will be attending the event, we will try to trace the cultural roots of violence against women, to analyze how it was experienced and perceived in the communities of Trentino and how it is currently represented by the media.

At 6.00 pm, the event will go on with a round table discussion in which the experiences of the institutions and subjects active in our area will be compared.

“In order to be able to tackle the issue in its complexity”, Fernanda Alfieri, researcher at the FBK Italian-German Historical Institute explains, “it is necessary not only to give voice to the stories of women who have been victims of violence, but also to observe the perpetrators and to attempt a critical reflection on the male element and on the culture that legitimizes violence “. To this end, at 8.45 pm, the documentary by Elisabetta Lodoli entitled “Ma l’amore c’entra? (But oes love have to do with it?)” will be screened. Produced in 2017, and based on real stories of patients being treated in centers dedicated to abusive men. The director will be present.

The initiative is part of the agreement signed between the Fondazione Bruno Kessler and the Trentino Historical Museum Foundation to foster a network perspective in the study and dissemination of history.
