SECURITY LANDSCAPE: a 3D exhibition within “BESec” Jean Monnet project

June 22, 2020

The visual investigation that TerraProject has carried out concerns the relationship between threats to security in contemporary European society and changes in the urban landscape. What does the landscape we have built express? What message will we leave to future generations through it?

The BeSEC Project

The subject of security is a central aspect of the process of European integration. After the Lisbon Treaty, security constitutes a key aspect of the Common Foreign and Security Policy (including a Common Security and Defence Policy) and of a the European Area of Freedom, Security and Justice.
In light of these dynamics, this Project intends to support activities of information and dissemination of knowledge and skills with regard to the subject of security and its role in the process of European integration, involving public and private actors who can play a role in the different areas linked to the subject of security, such as policy-makers, business representatives, staff of public administration and, in general, stakeholders in the field of European security.

The BeSEC Project has been funded by the European Commission within the Jean Monnet Actions.

The Jean Monnet Actions aim at promoting excellence in teaching and research in the field of European Union studies
worldwide. These Actions also aim at fostering the dialogue between the academic world and policy-makers, in particular with the aim of enhancing EU and global governance.

European Union studies comprise the study of Europe in its entirety with particular emphasis on the European integration process in both its internal and external aspects. They promote active European citizenship and deal with the role of the EU in a globalised world , enhancing awareness of the Union and facilitating future engagement and people-to-people dialogue worldwide.

In particular, Jean Monnet Projects support innovation, cross-fertilisation and the spread of European Union content.

Dissemination

A book will be published at the end of the project, in order to collect the results obtained within the Project and to disseminate them to the academic community, civil society and to the institutional and non-institutional actors involved in security. The book will collect in particular the lectures and case studies hosted during the events, allowing to further stimulate studies, research and dissemination in the field of security and its role in the process of European integration. Part of the book will also be dedicated to the systematization and dissemination of data and information that will emerge during the Project’s lifetime, in order to create a basis for studies and research for further scientific or training initiatives in the field of security in the European Union.

SECURITY LANDSCAPE
A virtual exhibition by TerraProject photographers*

The visual investigation that TerraProject has carried out concerns the relationship between threats to security in contemporary European society and changes in the urban landscape. As threats and fears multiply, concrete actions to reduce risks or their perception become part of the collective imagination by integrating into the landscape as new physical presences, signs, barriers and conventions that materialize the need for security, in countries that according to the data they are actually increasingly secure. What does the landscape we have built express? What message will we leave to future generations through it? These are some of the questions that arise from the “Security Landscape”.
