Gert Aarts

Gert Aarts is the Director of ECT*, the European Centre for Theoretical Studies in Nuclear Physics and Related Areas, and Professor in Physics at Swansea University in the United Kingdom. In Swansea, he is currently Head of the Particle Physics and Cosmology Theory group, Director of the UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning & Advanced Computing (AIMLAC), and Deputy-Pro Vice Chancellor for Postgraduate Research.

His work concerns strongly interacting matter under extreme conditions, the sign problem at nonzero baryon density, and, more recently, machine learning for statistical systems. He is founding member of the FASTSUM collaboration, with colleagues in Ireland, Italy, Denmark and Korea, studying QCD at nonzero temperature using lattice simulations.

He has published a total of 138 refereed papers and contributions in proceedings, with over 5600 citations and an h-index of 45. More details can be found on his Homepage, see pyweb.swan.ac.uk/~aarts/ .
