
Richard Hall-Wilton reappointed as head of the FBK Center for Sensors & Devices
The director will serve a three-year term
At its meeting on March 20, 2025, the Board of Directors of Fondazione Bruno Kessler, following the conclusion of an evaluation process conducted by three external experts, renewed the mandate of the Director of the Sensors & Devices Centre for an additional three years.
Prof. Hall-Wilton’s experience and expertise will be fundamental for the achievement of the Centre’s and the entire Foundation’s goals.
“The work of SD through the past 3 years – commented Hall-Wilton – has been to successfully emerge from the COVID period stronger than before. This has been helped by developing a strong working relationship across the research units in the centre, embedding quantum science & technology as a core application field and strengthening the research culture within the SD Centre. The PNRR projects have helped strengthen the research base of the centre, investing in the centres people and facilities.
The challenge of the next 3 years is to build on this sustainably; helped by the great opportunity of large investments achieved from 6 top level European strategic projects in the semiconductor domain.
The 4 strategic foci are:
1 – “delivering the future” by realising these investments through the Infrastructure Investment & Renewal Programme
2 – Ensuring that the centre offers a Comprehensive Quantum Value Proposition
3 – Strengthening and Rationalising “Health&Environment” Scientific Pillar
4 – “Relevant for the future” – making sure that the centre’s ways of working are agile and aligned with a rapidly changing world of research.
Along with this will be a continued drive to increase contacts between the research centres to allow for the opportunity of radical interdisciplinary research.”

Technology development from conceptualisation through development, construction, commissioning, and operation. Experience of building a green field facility. Group formation and management, including training and mentorship of students and experts.
