Ferruccio Resta has been appointed FBK president

April 28, 2023

The Trento Province Council has appointed the new president of Fondazione Bruno Kessler. He is Ferruccio Resta, full professor of Applied Mechanics of Machines at the Polytechnic University of Milan, Chancellor of the above university until December 2022 and current president of the Chancellors’ Conference.

Ferruccio Resta is also president of Centro nazionale di eccellenza sulla mobilità sostenibile (MOST), the National Center of Excellence on Sustainable Mobility, and an expert member of the Technical Mission Structure at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.

A figure whose cv, experience and specialization make him, in the governance’s assessment, the right choice to complete the handover of the baton at the helm of FBK – which is one of the pillars of the Trentino research and innovation network – and to help the Foundation navigate present and future challenges, with a focus on sustainability and technology transfer to the local area.

Born in 1968, with a degree and doctorate in mechanical engineering, Mr. Resta has a long track record of collaborations with leading national public and private entities. He is, among other functions, a member of the boards of directors of Il Sole 24 Ore Spa and Fiera Milano Spa and has recently concluded his experience as a member of the board of directors of Allianz Spa and Leonardo Spa.

The professor is also a member of Edison’s innovation committee, of NextChem-MaireTecnimont’s Advisory Board, and of ENEL Foundation’s scientific committee. Mr. Resta has a long experience in technology transfer and has carried out studies and research in the areas of mobility and infrastructure, mechatronics and vibration control, monitoring and diagnostics, vehicle mechanics, as well as on energy harvesting and MEMS systems, dynamic fluid interaction (wind engineering and fluid dynamics). He holds 18 international patents and has authored more than 300 scientific papers.

“I am aware,” said Councillor for Economic Development, Research and Labor Achille Spinelli, regarding the choice shared by the president and the entire governance, “that the path to identifying the president of Fondazione Bruno Kessler was a long one, but we were looking for a person who would enjoy a strong and established national and international recognition, with experience in leading a prestigious academic institution which is devoted, as FBK is, to technology transfer in the scientific field. A figure who also had been involved in the national planning of the PNRR in the research area. With his track record,” the councilor added, “he will enable us to push forward and tightly control, in the national and international context, in addition to FBK’s traditional topics, increasingly critical areas such as mechanics, microsystems and quantum technology that will be at the center of the Foundation’s future development and also of the local area’s technology transfer hubs.”
