For a Human-Centered AI

Andrea Caraffa

I am a Research Scientist at the Technologies of Vision (TeV) Lab at Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK) in Trento, Italy, where I focus on robotic visual perception, 3D vision, and 6D object pose estimation, with the goal of bridging cutting-edge research and real-world deployment. I earned my B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from Politecnico di Milano in 2018, and a double M.S. degree in Computer Science and Engineering in 2021 from Politecnico di Milano and KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. My master thesis on monocular visual odometry for autonomous underwater navigation was developed during an internship at the Swedish Maritime Robotics Centre (SMaRC).

At FBK, I work on scene understanding in complex environments, lead tasks in EU Horizon projects, and design scalable, efficient vision algorithms. My work has received several recognitions, including winning the BOP Challenge 2024 for 6D localization of unseen objects. Building perception systems that enable robots to understand and interact with the world as we do is what drives me every day.
