Melania Gaia Mazzucco

Italian writer. Graduated in History of Modern and Contemporary Italian Literature and in Cinema at Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, she wrote plots and scripts for the cinema for many years.
From 1995 she has been collaborating with Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani. Author of Il bacio della Medusa (1996), La camera di Baltus (1998), Lei cosí amata (2000, Super ET 2012), about the writer Annemarie Schwarzenbach, Vita (2003, Premio Strega, Super ET 2014), Un giorno perfetto (2005, Super ET 2017), which inspired the homonym Ferzan Ozpetek’s movie. The novel La lunga attesa dell’angelo (2008, Premio Bagutta) is dedicated to the Venetian painter Tintoretto, as well as the  biography Jacomo Tintoretto & i suoi figli. Storia di una famiglia veneziana (2009, Premio Comisso) and the docufilm Tintoretto. Un ribelle a Venezia (2019), which she created for Sky Arte channel and which has been broadcasted worldwide. In January 2011 she was awarded the Premio letterario Viareggio – Tobino as “Author of the year”. She also published with Einaudi: Limbo (2012, Premio Bottari Lattes Grinzane, Premio Elsa Morante, Premio Giacomo Matteotti); Il bassotto e la Regina (2012, Premio Frignano Ragazzi 2013); Sei come sei (2013); Il museo del mondo (2014), in which she writes about 52 art masterpieces; Io sono con te (2016, Fahrenheit, Radio 3 book of the year) and L’architettrice (2019). She has written for the cinema, theatre and the radio and she also collaborates with the Italian newspaper «la Repubblica». Her novels have been translated in 27 countries.
