The presentation event of the AIxPA project dedicated to artificial intelligence for Public Administration was held at FBK's Povo site
The presentation event of the AIxPA project dedicated to artificial intelligence for Public Administration was held yesterday Wednesday, May 29, at Fondazione Bruno Kessler ‘s Povo (Trento, Italy) hub, and included an introduction of the first version of the related technology platform.
The project aims to implement an Artificial Intelligence (AI) solution specifically designed for the needs of public administrations. The goal is to encourage a structural adoption of AI by the public administration, developing its transformational value and overcoming the current fragmented use thereof, thus providing a scalable model to generate a significant impact for growth in the local area. This requires working, in an integrated way, on all aspects related to the adoption of AI: technological and methodological tools, the “know-how” inside and outside the public administration, operational capacity, governance, ethical, legal and organizational aspects. To this end, it is necessary to create an ecosystem of innovation capable of involving all players in the area, with a leading role for companies.
After the greetings brought by the Councillor for Economic Development, Labor, University, and Research of the Autonomous Province of Trento and FBK Secretary General Andrea Simoni, who stressed in their talks the relevance of an integrated planning for the digitization of PA that will foster the creation of a local ecosystem extended to businesses, the first part of the meeting was dedicated to the presentation of the AIxPA project, a strategic initiative for Public Administrations, with a special focus on the Autonomous Province of Trento.
Cristiana Pretto, General Manager at Umst Digitalization and Networks of the Autonomous Province of Trento, introduced the theme of the initiative, which represents one of the strategic action areas of the Flag Project, stressing that it “intends to test the application of AI taking into account the specific needs of the local communities’ public administrations, enhance the enormous information assets available, support decision-making processes, improve and personalize services for businesses and citizens but also create a reference framework that will enable the development of innovative services by businesses. All this with the needed attention to the profiles of accountability, transparency, privacy protection, sustainability, ethical use of data through artificial intelligence.”
Marco Pistore, Director of the Center for Digital Society and scientific head of AIxPA, on the other hand, recalled: “Artificial Intelligence is a rapidly evolving field, both in terms of technology and regulation; the project’s activities are designed to yield tangible results and applications of AI in case studies of interest to the Province of Trento, but also to create all the conditions to prepare the Public Administration for the change that the adoption of AI will impose on it. Therefore, not only technology solutions, but a broad process of innovation, involving the entire Trentino ecosystem and creating the conditions to respond to the points of attention rightly pointed out by Cristiana Pretto. Once again, Trentino has proved to be a laboratory for experimentation and innovation of AI solutions that can be replicated and scaled up even at a national level “.
Kussai Shahin, general manager of Trentino Digitale, also spoke at the conference: “The topic of artificial intelligence has been disruptive in recent times, and Trentino Digitale’s mission is to support Trentino’s public administration in the adoption thereof in order to make it work efficiently and to improve the usability of services to citizens and businesses, working with local partners such as Fondazione Bruno Kessler and the University of Trento. Since Trentino Digitale manages the provincial digital infrastructure and platforms and applications of the Trentino public administration, we can rely on a large amount of quality public data, enabling us to give rise to enabling services that can impact the competitiveness of our local area.”
The second part of the event focused on a detailed description of the AIxPA technology platform. During this session, the specifics and features of the platform were analyzed, giving experts an opportunity to fully explore its potential.
Lastly, in the final part of the meeting, an overview of opportunities for companies was offered.
