New ECT* Director appointed

Prof. Ubirajara van Kolck has now officially taken over as Director of ECT* from Prof. Gert Aarts, after a 3-year period. Professor van Kolck was a member of the ECT* Scientific Board from 2014 to 2018 and is therefore well aware of the Center’s activities. Prof. van Kolck has been Research Director at CNRS, France since 2012 and Professor of Physics at the University of Arizona, USA since 2009.
“I am passionate about the ECT*. I have experienced its workshops, the beauty of Trento, and the determination of the Trentino people in many visits since 1993, ECT*’s first year of operation.
Thanks to the support from FBK and European funding agencies, ECT* provides an arena where new ideas are scrutinized and the most important research directions are identified, be them in nuclear theory or in interdisciplinary areas such as artificial intelligence.
ECT* has impacted the evolution of my own research and how the physics community views it. It is a privilege to now help guide the center as we face new scientific and technological challenges.” comments Prof. Ubirajara van Kolck
