Unequal health. FBK at the Festival of Economics 2017

May 26, 2017

Paolo Traverso, director of Fondazione Bruno Kessler’s ICT Center, will introduce the topic of the round table "Heathcare and new technologies"

Also this year, FBK participates in two events at the Festival, at its 12th edition.

The first one, Friday, June 2 at 3.30 pm at the former Agostinian Convent (Vicolo San Marco, 1 – Trento) will feature Stefano Merler, a mathematical epidemiologist and Head of FBK’s DPCS Research Unit. Merler will be among the speakers in the discussion “(Not all) vaccines are sexy. Inequalities between the global North and the global South, “organized by Medici with Africa Cuamm and FBK. We will talk about investments in medical research for the benefit of the population. Neglected diseases and pending vaccines, others developed in a very short time: a matter of science or a matter of appeal? A map of multi-level inequalities, from health research to the use of drugs. In addition to Stefano Merler, speakers include Sara Ferrari, Giovanni Putoto, Giancarlo Sturloni.

The second event will see Paolo Traverso, director of FBK’s ICT Center, among the speakers at the round table “Health and New Technologies” (Friday, June 2 at 4 pm at Palazzo della Provincia in Piazza Dante 15, Trento – watch the video interview). The debate will focus on the so-called revolution 4.0, which does not spare the health and medicine industries. Actually, as a high-tech activity, healthcare will increasingly become one of the driving forces for applications that bring together computing, sensors, artificial intelligence, telecommunications and big data, creating a new way of being a doctor, being a patient, doing research, and arranging care (meeting with lavoce.info, with Francesca Demichelis, Luciano Ravera, Luigi Tavazzi, Alberto Tozzi, Paolo Traverso; introduction by Rosanna Tarricone; co-ordinator: Roberto Satolli).

The Trento Festival of Economics will take place in Trento June 1 to 4, 2017. Nobel laureates, ministers, and experts coming from all over the world will be discussing and exchanging views, together with the Festival’s audience, on “Unequal health”.
