Best Paper Award @ RNDM 2016

September 18, 2016

Marco Savi, postdoc researcher of the Future Networks (FuN) research unit at FBK CREATE-NET, has been awarded with the Best Paper Award at the 8th IFIP/IEEE International Workshop on Resilient Networks Design and Modeling (RNDM), held in Halmstad, Sweden, from 13th to 15th September 2016.

The awarded paper, entitled “Virtual Network Function Placement For Resilient Service Chain Provisioning” authored by Marco Savi and Ali Hmaity, Dr. Francesco Musumeci, Prof. Massimo Tornatore and Prof. Achille Pattavina, investigates resiliency issues in Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and Service Chaining.

Specifically, the paper investigates different approaches to provide resiliency against the failure of NFV and network equipment (i.e., against single-link, single-node and single-node/link failures) when multiple Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) are placed in the network and chained to provide heterogeneous services.

RNDM is a reference workshop in the area of reliable network design and modeling and it addresses, among others, important topics such as data-center resiliency, Future Internet resiliency, management of survivable cloud-ready networks, etc.
