FBK-Create-Net awarded at the IEEE CNSM 2017 conference

Davit Harutyunyan, a PhD Student with FBK-CREATE-NET’s Fun Research Unit, has been awarded with the Best Student Paper Award and with the Travel Grant Awardat the IEEE CNSM 2017 conference with the paper “Flexible Functional Split in 5G Networks”.

“Being awarded at a conference of this level, with an acceptance rate of 17%, is certainly a source of satisfaction – says Roberto Riggio, FUN Head of Unit and co-author of the paper -. The award rewards the work done by our PhD Student Davit, who also received a Travel Grant Award, but also represents a recognition of our entire line of research on 5G networks “.

The award-winning article discusses key aspects for the practical construction of future fifth generation mobile networks. In particular, the work presented by Davit will allow telephone operators to provide a more widespread service in highly populated areas at significantly lower costs. From the end user’s point of view, this translates into cheaper mobile radio access and potentially also into a lower level of electromagnetic pollution thanks to the more efficient use of resources.

The International Conference on Network and Service Management is the main annual conference on the topics of Network and Service Management and represents an important opportunity for operators and leading experts from the academic and business world to present and discuss the latest innovations, results and developments of the industry.

For FBK-Create-Net, therefore, an important recognition that testifies to the excellence of the research carried out in particular on 5G networks and confirms the Trentino-based center as an important player in the world of new generation telecommunications technologies.
