The history of the media between the modern and the contemporary ages

The history of the media between the modern and contemporary ages will be at the center of the “Study Week” scheduled September 19 through 21 at Fondazione Bruno Kessler in Trento.

Organized every year by FBK’s Italian-German Historical Institute (ISIG), the event is an opportunity for scientific exchange of views with the world of international research. This year’s program includes the presentation of the work of young scholarship recipients alongside expert scholarly lectures on the topic. The discussion will be led by Gabriele Balbi, professor of media studies at the University of Italian Switzerland, Simone Derix, professor of contemporary history at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Paola Molino, researcher on modern history at the University of Padua, Raffaella Perin, professor of history of Christianity at the Catholic University of Brescia and Federico Ruozzi, researcher in History of Christianity at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. The FBK-ISIG researchers will then present the first results of the Institute project on “mediatization”.

The works will start at 3 pm on Wednesday, September 19 with the greetings by FBK-ISIG Director Christoph Cornelißen, scientific coordinator of the initiative together with researcher Claudio Ferlan, and will close with the final discussion on the morning of Friday, September 21.

In particular, experts will analyze the change in the media in the context of socio-political and cultural transformations that have characterized the modern and contemporary eras. At the same time, it will be a question of reconstructing the impact of the media in the various sectors of economy, technology, religion, culture and politics.
