Francesca Bria: How to build digital inclusion

November 29, 2017

The digital initiatives of the city of Barcelona and an interview on the role of digital and social innovation at the present stage

THE EIT Digital Italian Innovation Day 2017 was hosted on November 28 at Fondazione Bruno Kessler and involved European stakeholders (industry leaders, entrepreneurs, researchers and public authorities) of the ICT ecosystem who met to discuss and share insights on the current opportunities and challenges that digital transformation in Europe is facing.

The morning session was characterized by a keynote speech by Daria Tataj, who has served as the executive member of the EIT Founding Board, and ended with a high-level round table discussion with managers and opinion leaders of the Italian and European industrial ecosystems and the academic world that exchanged views on the potential of big data for smarter cities.

The afternoon session focused on Smart Cities. The Trento node was selected to host the EIT Digital Challenge in Digital Cities final, one of the five events scheduled throughout Europe under the pan-European competition.

Francesca Bria, Chief Technology and Innovation Officer of the City of Barcelona, presented the case study of the Catalan metropolitan city, showing its inclusive strategy and experimental approach. The video recording of her presentation is available on this page to the side.

She also released a brief but significant interview on the role of social digital media in an era like ours in which democracy is under attack due to the deep distance and mistrust between citizens and institutions.

Enjoy!
