The culture of cybersecurity
FBK researcher Giada Sciarretta's talk at the Wired Next Fest in Rovereto
“The protection of digital identity equally involves both those who design systems and end users.”
Thus said Giada Sciarretta, a researcher at Fondazione Bruno Kessler‘s Center for Cybersecurity, in her talk this morning at Wired Next Fest in Rovereto.
“In order to protect ourselves from digital identity theft,” the FBK researcher explained, ”it is crucial that security aspects are considered from the earliest stages of product development and that end users are made aware of the related threats and how to protect themselves. At FBK, we work on both levels, by providing methodologies and tools to assist the design and development of solutions that manage digital identity and by doing activities in schools to share good practices for online behavior.”
During the discussion at Palazzo del Ben with Stefano Fratepietro (Cyber Security Evangelist, Angel Investor & Keynote Speaker), and Sofia Scozzari (CEO & Founder of Hackmanac), moderated by journalist Luca Zorloni, Giada Sciarretta also spoke about the “European wallet” for digital document management.
“The digital wallet,” Sciarretta explained, ”will be an application with which citizens will be able to manage digital versions of their documents, such as driver’s licenses, passports, medical prescriptions, and credit cards. There will be controls to protect our privacy better by allowing selective sharing of data. For example, in order to get a discounted ticket at a museum, it will no longer be necessary to show a document that contains all personal data, but only the information that entitles one to the reduction. Users will also have the possibility of using the wallet when thery are abroad, for example, for obtaining a medication prescribed on the Italian wallet if they are in a pharmacy in Germany.”
