Luigi Crema’s European and national hydrogen leadership roles renewed
Appointments to leadership positions in key European and Italian hydrogen organizations reaffirm FBK’s role in strategic energy research and innovation networks
Luigi Crema, Director of the Center for Sustainable Energy at Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK), has been confirmed as Vice President of H2IT – the Italian Hydrogen Association – as part of the renewal of its governing bodies for the 2026–2028 term. He will also serve as Chair of the Association’s Scientific Committee.
This appointment represents important recognition of the work FBK has carried out over the years in the hydrogen sector and in energy transition technologies. It further strengthens the role of the Center for Sustainable Energy in fostering dialogue among research institutions, industry, and policymakers, while contributing to the development of a strategic value chain for the country’s decarbonization efforts. In this context, FBK has provided technical and scientific expertise to national institutions in support of sector strategies and regulatory frameworks, contributing to the update of the National Hydrogen Strategy, the definition of regulatory measures, and the implementation of RED III (Renewable Energy Directive), the European directive designed to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy and advance the energy transition.
At the European level, Luigi Crema was also reconfirmed as President of Hydrogen Europe Research, the association representing universities and research centers involved in the development of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies. His re-election reflects the confidence of the international scientific community in the association’s growth and consolidation, as well as in FBK’s contribution to shaping European energy innovation strategies.
As President of Hydrogen Europe Research, he continues to promote collaboration among research centers, universities, companies, and policymakers, supporting the transfer of scientific knowledge into industrial applications and advancing a long-term European vision for the competitiveness and sustainability of the energy sector.
This commitment was recently reflected in the policy dialogue organized by Hydrogen Europe Research in Dublin ahead of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The event brought together representatives from institutions, research organizations, and industry, including Ireland’s Minister of State for Climate, Energy and the Environment, Timmy Dooley, to discuss the role of hydrogen technologies in strengthening European competitiveness, energy security, and the transition to a low-emissions economy.
The appointments as Vice President of H2IT and President of Hydrogen Europe Research confirm FBK’s contribution to shaping the policies and strategies that will guide hydrogen development in Italy and across Europe in the years ahead.
