For a Human-Centered AI

AI-MATTERS Roadshow in Rome: Alessandro Cimatti presents the Center for Digital Industry as a partner of excellence for innovation in the manufacturing sector

October 14, 2025

The Roadshow — organized as part of the AI-MATTERS project, "AI that makes a difference in manufacturing" — held in Rome at the Casa delle Tecnologie Emergenti on September 24, 2025, brought together institutions, companies, and research centers to discuss the strategic role of artificial intelligence in the future of manufacturing and cybersecurity.

Among the key figures of the day, Alessandro Cimatti, director of the Center for Digital Industry at Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK), presented the center’s activities and FBK’s contribution as a partner in the AI-MATTERS European project.

In his speech, Cimatti highlighted how the Center for Digital Industry works to develop and transfer advanced AI solutions to support the digital and sustainable transformation of the manufacturing sector, with particular attention to collaboration with companies of all sizes. In his presentation, the Director emphasized the approach that characterizes the Center’s work in the industrial field: “Solving your problems with science.” This distinctive ability addresses complex problems — represented by the concrete needs of companies — through a rigorous scientific approach, where science proposes in-depth, solid, and research-validated solutions. This way, science becomes a practical tool to address real-world challenges in industry, creating a virtuous cycle where research drives technology transfer, which then sparks new research directions and challenges. This approach creates a unique model of excellence that combines scientific output with industrial impact, producing assets that are independent of any specific domain — such as technologies, methodologies, and cross-cutting skills applicable across various sectors. This enables the Center to address diverse challenges with solid, adaptable, and lasting solutions, making it a distinctive point of reference in the research and innovation landscape.

FBK’s participation in AI-MATTERS consolidates the Foundation’s role in European innovation and research networks, strengthening synergies with institutions, competence centers, and industrial partners.  The project aims to provide companies with an integrated ecosystem of skills, facilities, and services, capable of validating artificial intelligence solutions for a more efficient and safe manufacturing sector.

The event also featured an extensive debate with companies and stakeholders in the sector, confirming the centrality of AI and cybersecurity for the competitiveness and resilience of the Italian and European production systems.
