FBK and Trentino AI sign an agreement on the development of Artificial Intelligence in Trentino
Fondazione Bruno Kessler and Consorzio Trentino AI have signed a collaboration agreement aimed at strengthening the role of Artificial Intelligence as a lever for the growth and innovation of the local area. The partnership combines FBK's research capacity with the industrial experience of the Consortium companies, consolidating a stable bridge between research, application, and impact on the local area.
The agreement, signed on November 19, defines a comprehensive framework of collaboration to build shared strategies in the field of AI, qualify their respective activities, and attract young professionals, contributing to the competitiveness of the Trentino ecosystem. The joint activities are aimed at supporting the digital transition of Trentino, improving public administration services, the competitiveness of companies, and, more generally, the quality of life of the community. One of the shared priorities is to contribute to defining an AI vision consistent with the latest European directives and with a use that is responsible, transparent, and attentive to people’s rights.
Paolo Traverso, Director of Strategic Planning at FBK, said: “We must keep in mind that, for the development of an area and its industrial fabric, applying Big Tech solutions is not enough: we need specialized AI solutions to solve the real problems of companies, accompany public administrations in the digital transition, and give citizens certainty. With this agreement, FBK aims to make its solid expertise and years of research in Artificial Intelligence available to the business world.”
Trentino AI was established in 2022 by Delta Informatica, Dimension, Thread Solutions, and U-Hopper; over the years the Consortium has expanded skills, people, and projects, becoming an industrial hub dedicated to the development of AI solutions rooted in the local communities. The collaboration with FBK and the Consortium aims to reduce the gap between research and industrial application, accelerating the implementation of initiatives that benefit the Trentino economic and institutional system.
Pompeo Viganò, President of Consorzio Trentino AI, commented: “The agreement with FBK stems from the awareness that AI can really bring value only if research meets the ability of companies to transform it into operational solutions. rentino AI was created for this purpose: to serve as a bridge between scientific innovation and the productive world, supporting companies and public administrations in the concrete adoption of AI. The collaboration with FBK reinforces this mission, combining advanced skills, strategic vision, and industrialization capabilities. It is a decisive step to stimulate growth, attract talent, and evolve the entire Trentino ecosystem towards a more competitive and innovative future.”
At the same time, the agreement provides for public initiatives to discuss ethical, cultural, legal, social, and organizational issues related to the adoption of AI, with the aim of supporting a sustainable digital transition path in Trentino. Another important area concerns the enhancement and retention of skills in the area: FBK and Trentino AI aim to retain scientific knowledge and professional skills in the area, strengthening the local economic and innovative landscape.
The collaboration also includes joint training activities, aimed at both internal and external resources, in coordination with trade associations, as well as projects dedicated to young people and initiatives that promote new opportunities for social inclusion. When specific opportunities arise, the two companies will work together to develop Artificial Intelligence projects of common interest.
