FBK PARTICIPATES IN “M’ILLUMINO DI MENO” THIS YEAR AS WELL

February 21, 2018

For many years the Foundation has put in place several actions to improve the efficiency of buildings and to raise awareness of people's behavior in order to save energy.

Also this year, Fondazione Bruno Kessler takes part in the “M’illumino di meno” or Save Power Day initiative promoted by Rai Radio2’s Caterpillar show scheduled for Friday, February 23.

As a symbolic gesture of energy saving, on this edition as well FBK will reduce night lighting, lower the heating temperature and donate the food surpluses from its corporate canteen through the FBK “BringTheFood” app.

In addition to endorsing the initiative, and conducting research activities in the field, the actions that the Foundation has put in place for environmental sustainability and the efficiency of buildings and for the awareness of people’s behavior on energy savings are constant.

As for buildings, in 2017 the photovoltaic plants of the Foundation produced over 136,000 kWh of clean energy.
We estimate that, for 2018, we could reach 200,000 KWh with a reduction in CO2 emissions of 67 tons.
From 2011 to date, the Foundation has produced over 665,000 kWh of photovoltaic energy, for a reduction in CO2 emissions of over 220 tons, which is equal to the absorption capacity of 15,000 trees.

FBK employees make day-to-day energy savingefforts, such as turning off lights and unused or stand-by appliances, or using stairs instead of elevators.

As for the organization’s cafeteria, thanks to the “BringTheFood” FBK project, in 2017 we were able to rescue over a ton of food, to be precise 1,074 kg, the equivalent of 7,160 servings, 32 for each working day. All donations from the FBK cafeteria were picked up by Food Bank of Trentino Alto Adige and distributed to charitable organizations and structures based in our Province.
