The General Conference of the Future Artificial Intelligence Research Project (FAIR), funded with €114.5 million by the Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR) under the PNRR, was held in Rome from December 10 to 12, 2025. Launched in 2023 and coordinated by the National Research Council (CNR), the project involves 350 researchers across Italy and brings together 25 public and private partners.

More than €100 million will support infrastructure expansion and talent attraction. Fondazione Bruno Kessler continues to focus on talent, partnerships, and technology transfer to shape the future of innovation. The next institutional and benchmarking event will be held in February in Bologna.

November 6 the initiatives for the digital transition of the region carried out under the Flagship Project were presented — 20 million euros from the PNC for four areas of intervention. In Trentino, another 1,254 projects from the PNRR amount to 40 million euros.

FBK’s Center for Cybersecurity has completed the first service of the InnovAction project, testing a GPU-as-a-Service model to optimize the cost of this valuable resource. This activity was funded through the project in collaboration with the SME Clastix. The solution works and delivers a significant impact.

How can we build an ethical artificial intelligence (AI)? AI Ethics Canvas is a practical and interdisciplinary instrument based on research conducted by FBK’s Digital Common Lab within the AIxPA project, led by the Autonomous Province of Trento with FBK’s collaboration. Riccardo Nanni was among the main players in building the canvas. This tool presents a set of questions to which a multidisciplinary team needs to answer to devise an AI-driven service for public administrations (PAs). The AI Ethics Canvas helps to balance functionaries’ duties and obligations with citizens’ needs by providing a clear method to address these challenges. It is available for everyone to download.

A new Center has stemmed from the collaboration between Fondaziione Bruno Kessler, the departments of Sociology and Social Research, and of Economics and Management at UniTrento. Smart cities, changing work, and strategic management of public data: the collaboration between information technology, statistics, and social sciences provides support for decision-making.

Through the Health Emergencies Center, directed by Stefano Merler, Trento based Fondazione Bruno Kessler will be the leader, together with Istituto Superiore di Sanità (the Italian National Institute of Health) and the Association of Experimental Zooprophylactic Institutes, of the epidemiology and statistical and mathematical modelling studies for INF-ACT, the new consortium of 25 universities, public and private entities dedicated to emerging infectious diseases.

The new National Research Center in High Performance Computing, Big Data and Quantum Computing, led by INFN has the participation of Fondazione Bruno Kessler and UniTrento among its 51 founding members spread across the country.

With an additional act, the Province of Trento has allocated 1.2 million to FBK for the new "AI-TN" project aimed at carrying out activities in connection with artificial intelligence, including activities in collaboration with the University of Trento.
